first_imgThe incomparable Sharon Jones left this world on November 18th, 2016—four years ago today—but it seems like just yesterday the fan-favorite singer from New York City was still making audiences move to the music with her gift of performing gospel-inspired soul. The former Rikers Island corrections officer amazingly earned her mid-career renaissance starting in the mid-1990s and would go on to release a number of acclaimed studio albums until her death from cancer at just age 60 in 2016.Tributes and musical memorials were shared by fans and Jones’ musical colleagues in the weeks following her departure. One of the more fitting tributes following her death in 2016 came from funk band Lettuce, who shared a video shortly after her passing of their on-stage performance of Isaac Hayes“Do Your Thing” alongside Jones and Alecia Shakour, which originally took place during Georgia’s Major Rager back in 2015.The fan-shot video of the memorable performance can be watched in full below, with Jones seen strutting her way onto the stage beginning at the 3:10 minute mark.Lettuce w/ Sharon Jones, Alecia Chakour – Major Rager 2015[Video: Michael Johnson]It’s almost impossible to tune into the performance without getting all emotional, but if Miss. Jones was here today one can only assume that she would want her fans dancing to the music rather than dwelling on her absence. As the tribute post originally shared by Lettuce fittingly states below, the music world still misses your “Supremely Fiery Spirit,” Ms. Jones!last_img read more

Tweetcenter_img Journalist Lennox Linton was elected UWP Leader on Sunday, 1st September in Castle BruceDays after he was elected to lead the Opposition United Workers Party, many Dominicans are saying that journalist Lennox Linton has failed a live regional television interview.Linton, who was being interviewed for the first time since taking up leadership of the UWP by Julius Gittens of the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) on Wednesday evening, on the issue of the party’s decision to challenge the Government’s pick for the president. After spending a few minutes on that subject, the news presenter decided to ask Linton, “Given your own background in media, never having run for political office before, never having held political office before what then should qualify you to lead the main opposition party in Dominica as what you would consider to be a critical time against you have to say a highly popular Prime Minister who has not yet debated any of your predecessors”.Here’s what Linton responded; “You are asking me a very different question now, we’ve moved away from the Alix Boyd Knights story, have we?”Failure on Linton’s part to answer the first question, he was then asked a second time by the presenter.“You are making the suggestion that it’s all the same thing you are challenging the leadership of Roosevelt Skerrit, you are now leading this new party. This is your first political act as leader of the United Workers Party the question is what qualifies you to lead?“It is important first Julius because we are in a campaign for good governance for the Commonwealth of Dominica. We are in a campaign for the advancement of civility and the advancement of the affairs around the globe,” Linton said.“I am a novice, I have not contested for political office before, I’m going to be doing it for the first time at the next election, I find myself with the responsibility of leading a political party and it’s a very humbling experience, it’s a very exciting experience a very exciting challenge and I am endeavoring my very best to rise to the occasion. The people of Dominica and those who support the UWP and those who do not approve of what has been going on in the governance of Dominica for the past 14 years have placed their confidence in me to provide leadership for an organization that hopefully will enter government and do much better in the governance affairs of this country and that’s all I stand for,” he continued.Click here to listen to the interview, courtesy CMC, in its entirety: Audio Playerhttp://dominicavibes.dm/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Linton-CMC-interview-Sep4.mp300:0000:0000:00Use Up/Down Arrow keys to increase or decrease volume.Dominica Vibes News Share LocalNews Fail or pass? by: – September 6, 2013last_img read more

first_imgIt’s no secret that, following the acquisition of Jorginho, Maurizio Sarri wanted to be reunited with another one of his former pupils at Chelsea: Daniele Rugani. The pair worked together at Empoli prior to the manager’s time at Napoli, where the 59-year-old also wanted the young defender, but Juventus got in his way.Over the summer, there were multiple claims that Chelsea had made offers for the 23-year-old, but the Serie A champions sent them back to sender, unwilling to let another talent go after the sale of Mattia Caldara to Milan.A done deal was claimed more than once, but the player eventually stayed in Turin. It seemed that Juventus were aware the likes of Giogrio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci have limited time left at their best, and keeping Rugani around for foreseeable future would be best.Embed from Getty ImagesHowever, according to Rai Sport on Wednesday, relayed by Calciomercato, Max Allegri doesn’t rate the young defender any longer, meaning he could be free to go next summer. In fact, Juventus are said to ‘seriously evaluating’ a sale, which comes a week or so after claims emerged that Rugani, having seen the Chelsea bids rejected, wanted a new contract as compensation for missing out on the move. Are the two linked? Definitely. Maybe. So far this season, Rugani has played 91 minutes of professional football.by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksTrending TodayForge of Empires – Free Online GameIf You Like to Play, this City-Building Game is a Must-Have.
